Welcome to Boston and #alamw16

We’re traveling to Boston today and looking forward to seeing all of you attending the American Library Association’s 2016 Midwinter meeting there!  You’ll find us at Booth 1917 in the Exhibits…and why would you want to find us? Because:

We’re bringing cool new picture books, comics, and books for older youth from a variety of quality publishers, including Pajama Press (Canada), Leminscaat (Netherlands), Gecko (New Zealand), Floris Books (Scotland), Karadi Tales (India), Udon Entertainment (Canada/Hong Kong), and, from the United States, Diamond, Tilbury House, Gannon & Wyatt, Namelos, No Starch, and Two Lions.

We’ve got audiobooks and audiobook programming information from Oasis, AudioFile Magazine, and the Audio Publishers Association’s literacy initiative, Sound Learning APA.

We’re hosting signings by Rebecca Emberley, Bill Thomson, Licia Morelli and Jennifer E. Morris, and Susan Schwake.

We have a librarian staff who know books, audiobooks, and kids.

Plus, we are a lot of fun and generous, too…hmm, prizes anyone?

Live Oak Media supports AudiobookSYNC–and you can benefit!

Each summer for the past several years, the partnership of AudioFile Magazine and OverDrive has worked with audiobook publishers to get them on board with AudiobookSYNC, a program that builds teen literacy through the summer months. Live Oak Media is pleased to be a part of this effort, donating free download access to selected titles for a week at a time during the 14-week-long “SYNC season.”

Starting today, Live Oak Media’s Here in Harlem: Poems in Many Voices is featured for free downloading through AudiobookSYNC. This multi-actor performance of Walter Dean Myers’ response to Spoon River Anthology offers listeners the opportunity to meet the people of Harlem as the author knew it in the 1930’s and 1940’s. As with each Live Oak Media production, a stellar cast is supported with a musical sound bed that further evokes the period with jazz strains and street sounds.

Here in Harlem is available for free downloading by individuals ages 13 and up through next Wednesday night. Downloads made during SYNC can be kept forever by the participant, another way to start growing teens’ personal libraries. If you’re not already a fan of AudiobookSYNC, it’s a grand opportunity to discover it. Teachers, librarians, and others who work with teens can read about the program’s documented success in teen literacy support, and access the Toolkit that can used for publicity on library, school, and club websites.
